CHOTTIE'S PLAID STITCH
The Chottie's Plaid Stitch is a sttich that creates a plaid pattern, hence the name.
The background of the needlepoint piece at the bottom of this page shows how this stitch can be used. Basically, this stitch used 2 colors to create the "plaid" look. When complete, you will have solid squares and "striped" square. Four diagrams have been used to demonstrate this stitch, plus the sample piece at the end.
Chottie's Plaid Stitch (Diagram 1):

Bring the needle up at A, move to the left and down one thread and bring the needle down at B. Continue to the left and bring the needle up at C, move to the left and down one thread and bring the needle down at D. Continue working in this manner through H. Starting the second row, where we left off at H, bring the needle up at I, move to the right and up one thread and bring the needle down at F. Continue working this row and add as many rows as you need to complete the first color in this square. Now, continue on to Diagram 2...
Chottie's Plaid Stitch (Diagram 2):

Once you have completed the rows of the first color, you will need to fill in with the second color. Bring the needle up at A, move to the left and down over one thread and bring the needle up at B. Bring the needle up at C, move to the left and down over one thread and bring the needle up at D. Continue in this manner as you did for Diagram 1 until you turn to stitch the next row.

This diagram illustrates how a two colored block will look when complete.
Chottie's Plaid Stitch (Diagram 4):

This diagram illustrates how a single colored block will look when complete.
