The Kalem Stitch is also known as the kilim stitch and the kelim stitch. This stitch consists of rows of diagonal stitches. This stitch is similar to
Kalem Stitch (Diagram 1):
Bring the needle up at A, move up over one canvas thread and over to the right over two canvas threads, bring the needle down at B. Bring the needle up at C, move up over one canvas thread and over to the right over two canvas threads, bring the needle down at D. Bring the needle up at E, move up over one canvas thread and over to the right over two canvas threads, bring the needle down at F. Bring the needle up at G, move up over one canvas thread and over to the right over two canvas threads, bring the needle down at H. Bring the needle up at I, move up over one canvas thread and over to the right over two canvas threads, bring the needle down at J. This completes the first half of the Kalem Stitch. Now, continue on to Diagram 2...

The second part of this row is worked in the opposite direction of the first. Bring the needle up at I, move down one canvas thread and over to the right two canvas threads, bring the needle down at K. Bring the needle up at G, move down one canvas thread and over to the right two canvas threads, bring the needle down at L. Bring the needle up at E, move down one canvas thread and over to the right two canvas threads, bring the needle down at M. Bring the needle up at C, move down one canvas thread and over to the right two canvas threads, bring the needle down at N. Bring the needle up at A, move down one canvas thread and over to the right two canvas threads, bring the needle down at O. This completes the first row of Kalem Stitches.
