The Leaf Stitch is a large stitch that may be worked in groups or alone as an accent stitch. The size may be adjusted - just be sure to maintain
Leaf Stitch (Diagram 1):
Bring the needle up at A, move up over four canvas threads and to the left over three canvas threads, bring the needle down at B. Bring the needle up at C, move up over four canvas threads and to the left over three canvas threads, bring the needle down at D. Bring the needle up at E, move up over four canvas threads and to the left over three canvas threads, bring the needle down at F. Bring the needle up at G, move up over four canvas threads and to the left over two canvas threads, bring the needle down at H. Bring the needle up at I, move up over four canvas threads and to the left over one canvas thread, bring the needle down at J. Bring the needle up at K, move up over three canvas threads and bring the needle down at L. Bring the needle up at I, move up over four canvas threads and to the right over one canvas thread, bring the needle down at M. Bring the needle up at G, move up over four canvas threads and to the right over two canvas threads, bring the needle down at N. Bring the needle up E, move up over four canvas threads and to the right over three canvas threads, bring the needle down at O. Bring the needle up at C, move up over four canvas threads and to the right over three canvas threads, bring the needle down at P. Bring the needle up at A, move up over four canvas threads and to the right over three canvas threads, bring the needle down at Q. This completes the first Leaf Stitch. Now, continue on to Diagram 2...

This diagram illustrates how a second Leaf Stitch should be worked into the first Leaf Stitch and how the next row should be worked into the first row.
LEAF STITCH with BACKSTITCH
Leaf Stitch with Backstitch (Diagram 1):
This stitch should be worked exactly the same as the Leaf Stitch until Diagram 2.
Bring the needle up at A, move up over four canvas threads and to the left over three canvas threads, bring the needle down at B. Bring the needle up at C, move up over four canvas threads and to the left over three canvas threads, bring the needle down at D. Bring the needle up at E, move up over four canvas threads and to the left over three canvas threads, bring the needle down at F. Bring the needle up at G, move up over four canvas threads and to the left over two canvas threads, bring the needle down at H. Bring the needle up at I, move up over four canvas threads and to the left over one canvas thread, bring the needle down at J. Bring the needle up at K, move up over three canvas threads and bring the needle down at L. Bring the needle up at I, move up over four canvas threads and to the right over one canvas thread, bring the needle down at M. Bring the needle up at G, move up over four canvas threads and to the right over two canvas threads, bring the needle down at N. Bring the needle up E, move up over four canvas threads and to the right over three canvas threads, bring the needle down at O. Bring the needle up at C, move up over four canvas threads and to the right over three canvas threads, bring the needle down at P. Bring the needle up at A, move up over four canvas threads and to the right over three canvas threads, bring the needle down at Q. This completes the first Leaf Stitch. Now, continue on to Diagram 2...
Leaf Stitch with Backstitch (Diagram 2):
Once the Leaf Stitch is complete, work backstitches from bottome to top through the middle of the leaf.
