There are different types of needles available today.
Tapestry needles are recommended for needlepoint. Tapestry needles do not have a sharp point and have eyes that are larger than the average sewing needle. Tapestry needles are available in the following sizes: #13, #16, #18, #20, #22, #24 and #26. Number thirteen is the largest needle and number 26 is the smallest needle. The most commonly used needle is #18. This is the size that is appropriate for the popular 10 or 12 mesh canvases. To choose which size needle is right for your project, just be sure that the needle will slide through the canvas hole without causing any distortion to the canvas.
What is the most important tool you will ever need? The needle threader! Needle threaders are used, obviously, to help thread the needle. Be sure to obtain one before you begin your first project. I have listed two needle threaders below.
