2, 4, 6, 8 AND TIE STITCH
The 2,4,6,8 & Tie Stitch is also called the tie stitch. However, do
not confuse this stitch with the other tie stitch. Basically, this stitch consists of a series of straight stitches that cover a specific number of canvas threads - 2 threads, 4 threads, 6 threads and 8 threads. Once the 8 thread stitch is complete, a tie down stitch is added. This is where the name of the stitch is derived. When complete the 2, 4, 6, 8 and Tie Stitch will create a quilted look. The back stitches illustrated in diagram 5 are not absolutely necessary. However, you may want to use back stitches worked in a contrasting color. This will add to the quilted look of the stitch. Five diagrams have been used to demonstrate this stitch.
2,4,6,8 & Tie Stitch (Diagram 1):
Bring the needle up at A, move up over two canvas threads, bring the needle down at B. Bring the needle up at C, move up over four canvas threads, bring the needle down at D. Bring the needle up at E, move up over six canvas threads, bring the needle down at F. Bring the needle up at G, move up over eight canvas threads, bring the needle down at H. This completes the 2, 4, 6, 8 part of the stitch. Now, continue on to Diagram 2...
2,4,6,8 & Tie Stitch (Diagram 2):
Beginning where we left off at H, we will not add the tie down stitch - illustrated here in dark blue. Bring the needle up at I, move down and to the left over two canvas intersections, bring the needle down at J. This tie down stitch should be worked OVER the G/H straight stitch. Bring the needle up at K, move up over six canvas threads, bring the needle down at L. Bring the needle up at M, move up over four canvas threads, bring the needle down at N. Bring the needle up at O, move up over two canvas threads, bring the needle down at P. Now, continue on to Diagram 3...

2,4,6,8 & Tie Stitch (Diagram 4):
This diagram illustrates how the back stitches are worked around the 2, 4, 6, 8 and Tie Stitches. The back stitches, like the tie-down stitch, are illustrated in dark blue. Remember, if you choose to add the back stitches, try using a contrasting color for a more interesting look.
